I’m 35 years old, a husband and a father to two boys. I live in Brisbane Australia.
I work in the IT&T industry as a Senior Consultant specialising in Contact Centre Solutions.
I work with a specialised Contact Centre software suite called Genesys.
When I was about 12 years old my folks purchased our first family PC. It was an Atari 8088XT 640k RAM and 30MB Hard drive. I lived on it! I loved playing games like Leisure Suit Larry, Kings Quest and Sopwith Camel. One day I found a manual for the PC in the top drawer of the computer desk, inside it was a BASIC reference book. It said that I could create a file that when opened would print “Hello World!” on the screen. How exciting that was at the time!
After devouring the contents of the BASIC manual my folks bought me a book which came with it’s own compiler software on “QuickC”. This was, from memory, an early DOS version of C. I remember writing programs and hitting F5 to compile and then waiting for up to 10 minutes for the program to compile, only to find that it didn’t work as I had expected and having to make a change and wait another 10 minutes and so on and on.. Wow the good old days of super fast personal computing huh!
This was the start of my love of programming and computers in general. Although I started out at University studying Computer Science – I dropped out of Uni to work full time as a Call Centre Statistician – I’ve never looked back! Over the years I have managed to find plenty of ways to incorporate programming into my work life mostly with Excel (VBA), SQL and more recently web development (as you can see from this site).
Here’s a fairly recent picture of my family and I. I could do with dropping a few KGs as you can see!
